Ah, Xtian homeschoolers. Instead of the Backstreet Boys, it’s a fictional, colonial character whose breeches we want to get into.
My friend’s text message to me while talking about the book Johnny Tremain. I AM DYING. (via redpantsaddict)

Q
☞ How were you supposed to turn out? How did you actually turn out?
Well, I am supposed to be living at home, looking after my many younger siblings, until my father had found a suitable, christian husband for me.
Instead, I am flatting (with a boy no less) and working and drinking and loving it. Very shortly i will be living with my partner. And all this without being married!

☞ Are you awesome BECAUSE OF or IN SPITE OF homeschooling?
Absolutely in spite of it.
☞ Tell us why you’re an awesome homeschool survivor.
Because I have learned to open my mind. That everyone "out there" is not the bogey man out to destroy us all. That the people I have met have been some of the most amazing and loving people i ahve ever met.
☞ To what do you credit your success? Or, how’d you get here from there? Firstly, to moving to a small town where nobody knows me, and to the girl i first flatted with. Secondly to my best friend learning things with me and never judging. But in all honesty, a large part of it must be credited to discovering feministing, evil slutopia, and tumblr blogs.

☞ What grades were you homeschooled?
All they way through. Although I was never givin much formal education, we were pretty much handed a book and left with it.
☞ Give us some examples of the curriculum you used.
Abeka, Alpha Omega for the most part, although there were a few others I don't quite remember
☞ What were the best and worst things about your homeschool experience? Probably the best thing was i started working at a young age, so i was able to get a little more independance. Worst thing> i have little formal education, so i lack confidence in my academic abilities, it is also extremely difficult to get higher education

☞ If you have kids, do you plan to continue the homeschool meme?
No. If they struggled when younger, possibly for a few months or a year. but definitely not long term.
☞ Where can we find more of your awesomeness? (This is where shameless whoring of your blog/vlog/Twitter goes.)
sadly it is not set up yet, but i reccomnd stfu, Conservatives to you :)
☞ And the real question: Did your mom wear denim jumpers?
No being American homeschoolers, demin is not so big here. But she was very into long skirts and "modest clothing"
☞ Anything else you want to say?
I dont have before and after pictures sorry, but i went from long hair and skirts, no peircings, to currently being tattooed, 19 piercings at various titimes, and extrememly short blue hair

Good for you! :) I’m glad you escaped the patriarchy trap. And I think that education isn’t necessarily something that you gain in a formal establishment; if you want it, you just have to go out and get it, that’s all.
